COMPLAINT ON MUSHVIG HUSEYNOV’S CASE SENT TO EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS COURT

A complaint against the court decision to sentence “Bizim Yol” Newspaper correspondent Mushvig Huseynov to three months of pre-trial detention has been sent to the European Court on Human Rights.

Lawyer Isakhan Ashurov, who is handling some aspects of Huseynov’s case, told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.  
Recall that, on July 26 2007 in the Nasimi District Court under the chairmanship of the Judge Gulnara Tagizade a court verdict was adopted to imprison Mushvig Huseynov to three months of pre-trial detention. On August 3 2007 the Appellate Court’s Judge Rahman Mirzayev upheld the decision adopted by the Nasimi District Court.  
After the term of pre-trial detention finished, on 19 October 2007, the Nasimi District Court under the chairmanship of the Judge Aygun Abdullayeva, the court adopted a new decision to extend Huseynov’s pre-trial detention by three months. On 31 October 2007 Appellate Court’s Judge Abid Abdinbayov upheld this court decision.
