Media Rights Center and Women-Forum.net website co-organized an online conference on “State of Freedom of Speech and Expression in Azerbaijan – blogging in the country”.
Bloggers from the capital city and different regions, experts investigating this sphere, lawyers and journalists attended the online conference. The situation of freedom of expression in Azerbaijan, the contributions of the blogging to the traditional media, the new media, the violation of journalists’ rights, as well as protection of them were discussed in the conference.
IRFS representative Rasul Jafarov spoke about the serious problems of freedom of expression in the country. Media FM radio editor Teymur Aliyev noted that expression of independent opinion is always welcomed. Media Rights Institute lawyer Fariz Namazov spoke about the lack of independent judiciary system, fair judiciary investiations. Politics reporter Aygun Muradkhanli and bloggers Gan Turali, Rovshan Nasirli spoke about critical journalism in the country.
