The Council of Europe Ministerial Committee opened its Human Rights meeting on March 8. At the end of the conference, tomorow, the Committee will pass a decision regarding the imprisoned journalist Eynulla Fatullauev, reported Media Rights Institute Director Rashid Hajili.
According to Hajili, 3 members of the International Press Support Group – Article 19, Index on Censorship, International Committee to Protect Journalists, in addition to the Media Rights Institute as a partner organization, presented a document to the Ministerial Committee regarding Fatullayev, and also met with representatives of foreign states.
“We met with representatives of about 30 states. We also met with representatives from Thomas Hammerberg’s office. We provided them with the relevant judgments by the Supreme Court and Appeal Court. They did not have these documents. We wanted to meet representatives of Azerbaijani government, but they refused. I don’t know on which day Fatullayev’s case will be considered, but I know that a decision will be made within 5 days of the meeting, ” said Hajili.
