COUNCIL OF EUROPE MISSION ON MASS MEDIA VISITS BAKU

A Council of Europe Mission on mass media came to Baku yesterday (19 February). The Mission will be here until 22 February.

Yesterday a meeting between the mission’s members and representatives of media organizations in Baku took place in the Council of Europe's Baku office. During the meeting some discussions and consultations were carried out on defamation issues, the situation of information freedom, the activity of Public TV and things that should be done in the mass media sphere. Then projects that the Council of Europe wants to implement were discussed. Media Rights Institute Director Rashid Hajili, "Turan" Information Agency Director Mehman Aliyev, Democratic Journalists League Chairman Yadigar Mammadli, "Yeni Nesil" Journalists Union Chairman Arif Aliyev, "Ayna-Zerkalo" newspapers’ chairman Elchin Shikhli, TV critic Zeynal Mammadli, TV journalist Gulu Maharramli and chairman of the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety Emin Huseynov participated in the meeting.
