Court extends Rufat Safarov’s pretrial detention

A Baku court has extended the pretrial detention of human rights activist Rufat Safarov by a month. The defense considers the activist’s detention unfounded.

As reported by the “Caucasian Knot”, on December 3, 2024, the executive director of the human rights organization “Line of Defense” Rufat Safarov was detained in Baku and arrested the next day. The Court of Appeal upheld the decision on the arrest, despite the lawyers’ arguments about the groundlessness of the criminal prosecution and the health problems of the human rights activist’s father. On February 25, the court rejected the defense’s request to transfer Safarov to house arrest.
