
The State Security Service of Azerbaijan has issued a statement about the detention of a TikToker who posted a video about the movement of military equipment of the country’s armed forces on his account.
“On March 17, 2025, videos appeared in the foreign segment of social networks showing the movement of military equipment of Azerbaijan, which claimed that the Azerbaijani army was allegedly carrying out military operations on the state border,” the State Security Service of Azerbaijan said in a statement.
A criminal case was opened on the fact, and during the initial investigation it was established that the published video footage was dated February 27, 2025, the press release said.
The special service officers managed to find out that the author of the video is Azerbaijani citizen Rustamov Samad Bahman oglu, born in 2007. According to the State Security Service, he filmed the movement of military equipment belonging to the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan on February 27, 2025 in the Gadabay district.
“He posted this video material, the distribution of which is prohibited by law, on his page on the TikTok social network on March 15, 2025. These video frames were then used as a source for the dissemination of various false news by adding video images from different periods. As a result of the measures taken, Samad Rustamov was detained … His mobile phone was seized as material evidence,” the statement said.
The agency reminds that “filming and disseminating video footage related to military units of the Azerbaijani army, their deployment, movements, combat and mobilization training, weapons and military equipment through Internet resources, including social networks, entails criminal liability.” Measures provided for by law will be taken against persons committing such actions, the release said.
The release does not specify under which article of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan the TikToker was charged.
