COURT HEARING LAUNCHES AGAINST NTRC FOR ITS FAILURE TO GRANT LICENSE

Today, 2 July, in the Sabail District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Kamale Amirkhanova, a preliminary hearing was held against the National TV and Radio Council (NTRC).

“TV and Alternative Media Development Centre” Public Union Founder Rasul Jafarov and Muhakime newspaper’s editor-in-chief Yashar Agazade appealed to NTRC to get license to start the operation of the radio which will be broadcasted on relevant frequency in Baku and Absheron peninsula. NTRC stated that there are many free frequencies; however the government refused to allocate frequency and to grant a license. Plaintiffs filed an appeal against the act of NTRC and asked them to consider the act of the state entity illegal and task NTRC to give them license.

Plaintiff Rasul Jafarov participated in the hearing; however, nobody from the opposite side took part in the hearing. The judge accepted the case for consideration and scheduled the next hearing on this case for the 12th July, at 12.15 p.m.
