COURT HEARING ON LAWSUIT FROM EDITOR-IN-CHIEF AGAINST MOVEMENT LEADER POSPONED

Today, 2 February, in the Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Rahim Mirzayev, a hearing was scheduled to take place on the appeal of “Elchi” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Ali Haziguliyev against the decision of the Yasamal District Court on Haziguliyev’s special lawsuit (article 147.2 of the Criminal Code) against Fikrat Faramazoglu, the Chairman of “Movement of Young Patriots” (MYP).

However, the hearing was postponed until 9 February because the plaintiff did not participate in the hearing. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by F. Faramazoglu.
Last year, 2008, the Yasamal District Court issued a decision to consider MYP Chairman Fikrat Faramazoglu not guilty. “Elchi” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Ali Haziguliyevfiled an appeal against this decision. The lawsuits stems from the article "Honor Lesson for Dishonorable," which was run in "24 Saat" Newspaper on 4 February.
