Narimanov district Court heard the motion to replace Journalist Research Centre (jam.az) news website chief editor Fikrat Faramazoglu’s pre-trial detention with house arrest, as reported by journalist’s lawyer Elchin Sadigov. Fikrat Faramazoglu was arrested on 30 June 2016. He is charged under Article 182 (extortion) of the Criminal Code. On 02 July 2016, Narimanov district Court ordered his pre-trial detention.

The lawyer noted that although the journalist’s release under house arrest would not have affected the investigation of his criminal case negatively, the court did not grant the motion.

Elchin Sadigov added that the court’s decision would be appealed.
