CRIMINAL CASE INSTITUTED AGAINST “GUNDALIK BAKI” NEWSPAPER’S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

A criminal case has been instituted in the Yasamal District Prosecutor's office against "Gundalik Baku" Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Habil Valiyev.

According to the case materials, Valiyev got into an altercation with soldier Ali Yusifov, and as a result the soldier's pinky finger was injured. The chief editor of the newspaper Adil Huseynli reported this to the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety.
"Our editor-in-chief is accused under articles 188 (violation of the right to land) and 315.1 (using force to resist a government representative fulfilling their duties) of the Criminal Code. Valiyev allegedly built a house for weddings and funerals on land that belongs to the Ministry of Defense, and injured soldier Yusifov while this house was being torn down by soldiers from the Apartment Exploitation Service Unit of the Defense Ministry," Huseynli said.
Huseynli noted that Valiyev was called to the Yasamal District Prosecutor's office and interrogated jointly with the soldier. During the interrogation the soldier said that he didn't know Habil Valiyev. "That is why our defense lawyers will make a motion to close this case," said Huseynli.
