Day.az and its English-language sister site today.az have been sold. Day.az chief editor Elnur Baimov told this to APA. Baimov said that this step was taking by the sites’ founder Anar Mammedkhanov and he has no information about this.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety attempted to contact Baimov and Mammedkhanov to get more information about this matter, however neither answered their telephones.
Day.az and Today.az websites ceased operating on 18 February. At that time both Mammedkhanov and Baimov told IRFS that the sites closures were technical in nature and both would reopen on 25 February.
