EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF HAJIGABUL NEWSPAPER THREATENED TO BE FIRED FROM HIS JOB

Malahat Asgargizi,  editor-in-chief of Hajigabul newspaper is threatened by the Head of Hajigabul District Executive Office, Askargizi reported to IRFS today, June 5th.

According to the editor,  2 years ago, the letters of complaint sent by her to the President’s Office could now result in her being expelled from her job.
“I appealed to Ali Hasanov, head of socio-political department  of President’s Office and other related authorities regarding the legal violations encountered.  Yesterday, Asabir Mammadov, press service head at Hajigabul District Executive Office, called me and told me to sign a statement of resignation. When i asked the reason , he cited the letters of complaint submitted by me 2 years ago. I asked to meet Ahmed Mukhtarov, head of Exeutive Office.  Mukhtarov roughly said that he is the owner of this region and can make any decision at nay time. Despite all the threats, I did not signed the statetment, because I have relevant evidences. The head of Executive Office is, at the same time, the founder of the newspaper, of which i am the editor-in-chief.  In adittion, I was threatened to be subjected to financial inspections, “  said Asgargizi.
IRFS correspondents’ efforts to contact Ahmad Mukhtarov  gave  no result.
Hajigabul newspaper has been operating since May 28th, 1991, as the official press outlet of Hajigabul District Executive Office and is published twice a month.
