The Azerbaijan Committee against Torture Chairman Elchin Behbudov will visit imprisoned journalist Mushfig Huseynov. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Elchin Behbudov.
Elchin Behbudov said that he will appeal to the Penitentiary Services on this issue today, 20 October.
Several days ago Mushfig Huseynov was placed in the treatment facility because his health deteriorated seriously. Mushfig Huseynov stated that he wants human rights defenders, especially Elchin Behbudov, to visit him.
Mushfig Huseynov was convicted under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code in July, 2007 and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment. However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by the Appellate Court.
