ELMAR HUSEYNOV COMMEMORATED

On March 2nd, representatives of the democratic community visited the grave of Elmar Huseynov, the late editor-in-chief of the Monitor magazine. Seven years have passed since his death.

Journalists, the leaders of opposition parties, human right defenders, members of the intelligentsia, and representatives of diplomatic missions attended the event.

 

The attendees expressed their rage over the fact that Huseynov’s murder has not been solved yet. Politicians – Musavat party leader Isa Gambar and Azerbaijan Popular Front Party leader Ali Karimli said that the ruling regime is involved in the murder of the journalist and that this crime will not be solved while the current government is in power.

 

Elmar Huseynov was shot dead by unknown persons in front of his apartment when he was returning home from work. Later Azerbaijani government reported that the crime was committed by two ethnic Azerbaijanis Teymuraz Aliyev and Tahir Khubanov who live in Georgia.
