Today (20 June) Internal Ministry Internal Investigation Department employee Farhad Azimov verbally interrogated Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety Chairman Emin Huseynov about his beating last Saturday.
E. Huseynov is currently receiving treatment in the Centralized Emergency Medical Assistance Hospital.
Azimov stated that this case was under the direct oversight of Minister of Interior Ramil Usubov after the Ombudsman appealed to Usubov. Azimov said that it was the Minister’s special assignment to get the statement. Although Emin Huseynov was supposed to give the statement in a written form, he stated that he goes through several treatment procedures during the day, and that is why he is tired and cannot write it personally.
However, Huseynov emphasized that he could dictate his statement and sign the written form of it. Azimov said he preferred that Huseynov write the statement in his own handwriting, and after a mutual agreement, it was decided that Huseynov will give the written statement tomorrow (21 June).
