Baku City Nizami District Executive Administration hinders activity of “Yeni Musavat” newspaper editorial office which is located in this region.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by “Yeni Musavat” newspaper Editor-in-chief Rauf Arifoglu.
“Water has not been given to the editorial office of “Yeni Musavat” for the last three days,” said Rauf Arifoglu. “Two days ago they wanted to dig out sewage line of the building where the editorial office is located. This made it impossible for the employees of the editorial office to come into the office and leave; therefore they objected to it. We talked to the Nizami Distrcit Executive Administration and Apartment-communal Economy Union in connection with this issue. They agreed that they would give water temporarily. But we haven’t had any water up to now. They told us that they will begin digging again if the owner of the building does not fix the problem.”
R.Arifoglu emphasized that he does not believe that the government has anything to do with it. “We published several critical articles in connection with Nizami District Executive Administration in our newspaper. Therefore we believe that this problem is ‘the work’ of district leadership,” noted Arifoglu.
IRFS contacted the Nizami Distrcit Executive Administration in connection with this issue. Executive Administration Socio-political Department Employee Rena Rasulova told us to contact Deputy Head of the Executive Administration Arrahman Hasanov, but our phone calls went unanswered.
