Today, 3 February, in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Tahir Ismayilov, a preliminary hearing was held on the lawsuit of Agdam Region Executive Power Head Hasan Sariyev’s driver Kamil Akhundov against “Gundalik Baki” Newspaper. K. Akhundov claims that his honor and dignity were damaged and demands that the damage be paid (article 148). “Gundalik Baki” Newspaper Deputy Editor-in-chief Uzeyir Jafarov reported this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.
An article entitled “Agdam Region Executive Power Head Hasan Sariyev acts as freely as he wants?” “Ağdam rayon İcra Hakimiyyətinin başçısı Həsən Sraıyev Ağdamda at oynadır?” published in “Gundalik Baki” Newspaper. Hasan sariyev’s driver Kamil Akhundov’s name was also mentioned in the article. Therefore, Akhundov filed a lawsuit against the newspaper.
“The “Gundalik Baki” Newspaper’s lawyer filed a motion not to consider the case because Kamil Akhundov has nothing to do with the material in the article,” said Jafarov adding that the judge postponed the hearing indefinitely because plaintiff K. Akhundov did not participate in the hearing.
