Imprisoned editor Eynulla Fatullayev has been transferred back from Baku Investigative Prison to Prison #1, the journalist’s attorney Anar Gasimov told IRFS.
Lawyer Anar Gasimov reported that “On the day of the hearing, the prison guards who brought the journalist to the court told me that Fatullayev would be transferred to Prison #1. The hearing was postponed without any good reason, which was a legal violation. It’s pretty clear that they are not interested in Fatullayev’s appearance in the hearing and are concerned that it could influence the way the case is perceived by society.”
The Justice Minsitry Penitentiary Service PR chief Mehman Sadigov confirmed the report and said that Fatullayev will be re-transferred to Baku Investigative Prison if the hearing is held.
Despite Fatullayev’s request filed to the Penitentiary Service regarding his safety, he was transferred to prison #1, where his life was in danger. Attempting to ensure his safety, the imprisoned journalist voluntarily stayed in a single cell for a month. The journalist had requested to be transferred to prison #9 where the former employees of law-enforcement agencies are held.
