FORMER EDITOR-IN- CHIEF SUED OVER ARTICLE

“Elchi” Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ali Haziguliyev has filed two lawsuits against former “24 Saat” newspaper Editor-in-Chief Fikret Faramazoglu.

Faramazoglu told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, “This lawsuit stems from my article ‘An honor Lesson for Dishonorable,’ which was published on 4 February 2008. The first lawsuit demands calls for my arrest under articles 147 (libel) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code. The second lawsuit is put forth in the form of civil claim and it calls for me to pay 100,000 AZN in fines.” Faramazoglu added that he wrote the article in retaliation for the article “Who Spins the Hands of ’24 Saat’?,” which was run in “Elchi” newspaper on 3 February 2008.
Recall that “24 Saat” newspaper temporarily ceased publishing at the beginning of last month due to financial hardships. Then “Nota Bene” newspaper founder Ilham Tumas resumed the newspaper’s publication and he now is the editor-in-chief of the newspaper.
