Saying that Ganimat does not have any complaints about his health or prison conditions, Mursaliyeva noted that the editor-in-chief assesses the 30 April incident at the Oil Academy of Azerbaijan as terror.
“Ganimat wants this incident not to be treated like an accidental incident, but to be thoroughly investigated,” said Mursaliyeva. According to Mursaliyeva, they have addressed an appeal to PACE rapporteur on political prisoners in Azerbaijan Christopher Strausser after they consulted Ganimat Zahid.
“G.Zahid’s letter has been translated. The reasons for his arrest, his socio-political work, his last speech at his trial have been brought up in the appeal. In addition, it was noted in the appeal that G.Zahid’s arrest had been ordered by Prezident Ilham Aliyev,” added A.Mursaliyeva.
Ganimat Zahid was convicted under articles 127.2.3 (hooliganism with intentional infliction of minor bodily harm) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for four years. This charges widely understood to be spurious and Zahid is considered a political prisoner.
