General prosecutor proposes stiffer punishment for libel and insult

Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Republic, Zakir Garalov, submitted a bill to the parliament on April 30, requesting amendment to the Articles 147 (libel) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code, femida.az reports referring to Ali Huseynli, head of Legal Policy and State Building Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament.

 

The bill proposes to double the current sentence of 240 hours of compulsory unpaid work stipulated for these offences, and also to apply this liability to those who spread information using the Internet.
