HEARING AGAINST MUBARIZ MASIMOGLU POSTPONED

Today, February 17, in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Metanet Hajiyeva, a hearing was scheduled to take place on the court case against the assistant editor-in chief of "Korrupsiya ve Jamiyyat" Journal Mubariz Masimoglu. This case stems from a criminal case instituted by the Yasamal District Police Department's Investigation Department under article 221.2 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code. The hearing was postponed until 23 February, at 10:30 a.m., because the judge was ill and the plaintiffs did not come to court.

This lawsuit stems from a dispute which happened on a public bus between assistant editor-in chief of "Korrupsiya ve Jamiyyat" Journal Mubariz Masimoglu, Maleyka Asadova (not Azerbaijan's Pop Artist Maleyka Asadova) and Emil Jarchiyev in August 2008. A lawsuit has been filed against Mubariz Masimoglu under the article of hooliganism. According to Mubariz Masimoglu, the lawsuit was filed at the order of the Yasamal District Police Department Chief Mohubbet Huseynov. The journalist claims that he was not informed that an investigation was carried out and the case was sent to the court.
A “Committee to Defend Mubariz Masimoglu’s Rights” has been created. The Committee includes several mass media representatives, and the editor-in-chiefs of “Daryaz”, “Bumerang”, “Mustagil Azerbaijan”, “Son Nogta”, “Ojag”, “Prolog”, “Press Diaspora”, “Chag”, “Sabah”, and “Adalat ve Hagigat” newspapers.
