Today (17 September) in the Nasimi District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Turgay Huseynov, a hearing was conducted on the lawsuit of Mountain Jews Community Head Semyon Ikhiilov and others against "Khural" Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Avaz Zeynalli.
This criminal case was opened against A. Zeynalli under Article 283 of the Criminal Code (inciting racial, religious, national discrimination). The lawsuit stems from Zeynalli’s translation of Adolph Hitler’s book "Mein Kampf" into Azeri and publication of parts of the book in "Khural" Newspaper.
The hearing was postponed ten months ago due to the motion filed by Zeynalli to send the book to the Justice Ministry's assessment an expert. Zeynalli told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that there has been no assessment of the book over the past ten months.
Zeynalli filed a motion again during today’s hearing to send the book for expertise. Judge Huseynov held the motion unconsidered and said that the book will be sent for expertise if necessary.
The next hearing on this case will take place on 23 September at 3:00 p.m.
