Today, 20 April, in the Khatai district Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Habil Memmedov, a hearing was held on Yeni Musavat newspaper’s lawsuit against “Azerigas” Production Union Chief Akber Hajiyev regarding his failure to answer the information inquiry.
Yeni Musavat newspaper’s lawyer Vagif Huseyn and “Azerigas” Public Union’s representative Shakir Aliyev took part in the hearing.
The plaintiff’s representative V.Huseyn said that the failure of “Azerigas” to answer the information inquiry is a violation of freedom of expression and Law “On Obtaining Information.”
The defendant’s representative Shakir Aliyev said that the information to be unveiled through the information inquiry contradicts the clients’ interests and advised this information be obtained from the clients directly.
The judge declared that the hearing was concluded and the decision on this case will be announced tomorrow, 21 April at 9:15 a.m.
In addition, the judge did not permit the correspondents of the Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety to film during the hearing.
In the information inquiry addressed to “Azerigas” Production Union Chief Ekber Hajiyev, Yeni Musavat newspaper requested information regarding the amount of yearly gas consumption for 2007-2008 in the locations operating within the category of wedding palaces, and the situation of payment separately for each location and year.
Yeni Musavat newspaper has been published since 1993 and operates as daily newspaper and has large circulation.
