Yesterday, 5 October, in the Baku Appeals Court under the chairmanship of Judge Huseyn Talibov, a preliminary hearing was held on the appeal against the decision of the Sabail District Court on the lawsuit of Elchin Hasanov, Afgan Mukhtarli and Natig Adilov against the Sabail District Police Department # 39, Elchin Hasanov told the Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety (IRFS).

Hasanov said that the employees of Police Department # 39 used physical harassment against journalists, which caused injuries to the journalists. He also told the Judge that photo and video records of the incident were presented to the lowest instance court, but the evidence was not received.
Citing the absence the defendant’s representatives, Judge Abbasov delayed the trial until 19 October, at 3:00 p.m.
The journalists were subjected to physical harassment in front of the Sabail District Police Office Police Department #39 on 10 May, 2009. They were beaten by the police in front of the Police Department #39 while they were gathering information regarding the detention of a group of youth who protested against “Flower day” and not declaring of mourning regarding people who died during the armed attack at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.   Journalists appealed to court to consider the action of police unfounded. Journalists filed appeal against the decision issued in Sabail District Court on 2 April, 2010 not to fulfill lawsuit.
