HUMAN RIGHTS CLUB ESTABLISHED IN AZERBAIJAN

Today, at the IRFS press center, the “Human Rights” Club establishment was announced by a group of rights defenders on December 10th, International Human Rights Day.

Rights defender Natig Jafarli stated that the aim was to unite efforts in the human rights protection field in Azerbaijan. He mentioned the club would investigate human rights and prepare reports.

Rights defender Rasul Jafarov spoke about prisoners’ rights being violated and stressed that the club would pay special attention to this field. Rights defender Sabuhi Gafarov said that rights of some prisoners were protected, but the others rights were violated. He mentioned that the rights of all individuals will be protected by the club. Journalist and rights defender Idrak Abbasov pointed out the importance of uniting the efforts. He said the club will be open for every person who wants to work in this field.

Other rights defenders attending the event included Hakimeldostu Mehdiyev, Elman Abbasov, Hilal Mammadov, Parvana Persiani stressed the importance of this club.

Rights defender Emin Huseynov stated that such clubs operate in most countries, and that this practice provides effective support for work in the human rights field. He mentioned that the club will prepare a report on human rights by the end of current year and will also prepare monthly reports to be presented to the local and international communities.
