HUMAN RIGHTS HOUSE OPENS IN AZERBAIJAN

On 25 April, the opening ceremony for Human Rights House (HRH) in Azerbaijan was conducted. Representatives for the Norwegian, U.K. and U.S. embassies in Azerbaijan, the OSCE, and other local and international organizations participated in the event.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Norway to Azerbaijan Jan Ramberg opened the event and said that the creation of such an organization is an important step to protect human rights in Azerbaijan. “I hope this step will create friendship not only among our countries, but also among our people,” added the ambassador.
HRH Executive Director Maria Dahle spoke. The director noted that in recent years human rights defenders have been enoucntering greater problems while realizing their professional work. She said that the Rights House will assist in the realization of sustainable relations between Azerbaijan and the international community. She noted that the office will be open to local organization to conduct trainings and seminars, and said that a library will also be opened.
Director of the Belarus Human Rights House Boris Zvozskau spoke about the significance of the organization and wished it success in its future activity.
HRH Project Director Anna Bonde delivered congratulatory letter addressed to Azerbaijan’s Human Rights House from other HRH Networks around the world.
In conclusion, Shahla Ismayilova, current HRH Coordinator for Azerbaijan, promised that she will do everything to fulfill her obligations as the director of the organization.
