“Bizim Yol” newspaper correspondent Mushfig Huseynov’s name has been included in the ill political prisoners list of the Parliament Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE).
According to today’s edition of “Bizim Yol” Newspaper, human rights defender Novella Jafaroglu, who has recently returned from summer session of PACE, told this to journalists. Jafaroglu emphasized that there are political motives in Huseynov’s arrest and therefore his name was included in the list.
Recall that Mushfig Huseynov was accused under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code, and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment, followed by 2 year ban on his writing activity. However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by Appellate Court Judge Sahibkhan Mirzayev on 4 April 2008.
Huseynov has tuberculosis and is also the father of two very young children.
