The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety condemns the death threat made against the family of imprisoned Editor-in-chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan Newspapers, Eynulla Fatullayev.

Yesterday, 17 March, Eynulla Fatullayev’s father received a phone call from an unidentified person who told him, “your son and you should not speak much or things might turn bad for you and we will destroy you.” Emin Fatullayev said he reported the threat to police.
Eynulla Fatullayev released a statement claiming that late journalist Elmar Huseynov’s murder was organized by a high-ranking NSM official.

IRFS states that death threat administers responsibility under article 134 (Death threat or threat to seriously harm health) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic.

IRFS calls on law enforcement organs in Azerbaijan to find people who threatened the family of the editor-in-chief and to prosecute them in accordance with legislation.
