INTERNATIONAL PRESS CENTER CLOSES FOR REPAIR

Starting tomorrow the International Press Center, where round tables, press conferences and other events are carried out, will cease operations indefinitely.

Parviz Hashimli, Head of Political and Civil Rights Center, told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.

According to Hashimli, on 17 June his organization was supposed to conduct an event in the Press Center to present the award of “Journalists’ Friend” to U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse. “We paid the rent for the event beforehand. But today (10 July) they called and asked me to take the money back due as the center is being closed for repairs. We have already received our money back,” he said.

P. Hashimli added that he believes this issue is related to political purposes, not to the repair.

However, Press Center employee Mustafa Niftiyev told IRFS he disagrees with Hashimli. He said the Press Center is closing for repair and that is why all the events to be carried out there have been cancelled.

In connection with this, IRFS reminds everyone that its press center is available for use free of charge for the conduction of press conferences, round tables, seminars and other events. For more information call 12-598-4519; 12-498-6687
