As Azerbaijan’s presidential election approaches, the problem of media control and political power again is the burning issue. The state of media pluralism has never been more depressing. This is also why the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) calls on the government of Azerbaijan to take legislative action concerning concentration of media ownership and liberalization of the media, and to create conditions to encourage full, fair and efficient coverage of all upcoming elections.
To learn more, join our roundtable event that will be held tomorrow, October 8th, from 14.00 to 15.00, at the press center of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety. During the event, we will launch a preliminary version of the report: Coverage of 2013 Azerbaijan’s Presidential Election, as part of a larger project funded by the OSCE office in Baku.
