At national conference for media reform, government is urged to address country’s deteriorating press freedom record

More than two dozen participants of the World Press Freedom Day Conference in Baku, have urged Azerbaijani government to combat impunity for crimes against freedom of expression, enact legislation guaranteeing the right of access for all to information held by public bodies at all levels and secure a free and open Internet as the precondition for safety online. The call was issued in the declaration adopted at the close of the conference, organized by a group of media freedom organizations including (in alphabetical order) Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS), International Media Support (IMS), IREX and Media Rights Institute (MRI) to mark the World Press Freedom Day in Baku. The event was supported by the OSCE Office in Baku.
