Azerbaijani freelance journalist Anar Abdulla has been brought to criminal responsibility as a defendant in the case of human rights activist Anar Mammadli. He has been placed under police supervision as a preventive measure. Abdulla denies accusations of economic crimes.
Freelance journalist Anar Abdulla (Abdullayev) was summoned to the Baku Main Police Department on April 8, where he was charged in the case of the head of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center Anar Mammadli.
Abdulla has been charged under articles on illegal entrepreneurship, legalization of illegally obtained property, smuggling and tax evasion as part of an organized group, as well as forgery of documents, the journalist’s lawyer Gunay Ismayilova told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
According to her, the journalist has been placed under police supervision, which obliges him to regularly visit the police and report there.
Abdullah himself said that he does not plead guilty to any of the criminal charges against him. It was not possible to obtain comments from the Ministry of Internal Affairs; representatives of the investigative body were unavailable for comment.
