May 23rd, 2013

Yeni Musavat journalist Araz Bayramov was attacked while filming the funeral of soldier Togrul Abdullazadeh in Lankaran city on May 23, as he told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS). According to him, he was mistreated by one of the Baliqchilar (Narimanabad) villagers, who grabbed his arm and pulled him away.

“Then two other men tried to seize my camera. A bit later the police arrived and demanded me to present my journalist ID card. Though I presented my press card to a police, they detained me for a while. I was only released when Abdullazdeh’s relatives came” said the journalist.

Note that soldier Togrul Abdullazadeh died on May 23 after a lengthy treatment in the military hospital since March 30, when he was accidentally shot from his fellow Samir Aliyev’s gun while he was clearing it.
