Journalist Hilal Mammadov makes objection to the composition of jury considering his case

On May 22th Baku Grave Crimes Court held a hearing on the case of Tolishy Sado newspaper editor Hilal Mammadov. Judge Azer Orujov presided over the hearing. The hearing started with the testimony by Hilal Mammadov. However the presiding judge repeatedly interrupted him. Mammadov’s lawyers, who objected to this, were treated similarly by the judge. In response to this, the defense expressed their objection to the composition of the jury.

 

The judge postponed the trial until May 29, 10:30am.

 Hilal Mammadov is charged with illegal possession of drugs in large quantities (Article 234.4.3/Criminal Code), treason (Article 274/Criminal Code), and incitement to national, racial, social and religious hatred and hostility (Article 283/Criminal Code).
