Independent journalist Idrak Abbasov reports being threatened by residents of Lankaran city. The threats came after the interview Abbasov made with one of the residents whose daughter became subject to teacher’s misconduct at one of the schools in Lankaran, journalist told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) on May 14.

“I interviewed Lankaran resident Shahin Agayev, whose daughter was beaten at school, on January 14 and posted it on the internet. On February 6 Agayev was arrested on drug charges. His verdict will be announced in the coming days. Yesterday his relatives called me and blamed me for his arrest.  I am sure that it is the authorities who stand behind these threats. The current government will be solely responsible for everything that will happen to me” said Abbasov.
