Well-known journalist and satirist Mirza Sakit (Zahidov) was injured by police during the Public Chamber’s April 2 protests at Fountains Square. Sakit made a statement to the institute for Reporter’s Safety and freedom (IRFS) on April 4th.
“The police suddenly approached and handcuffed my hands. Then they forced me into the bus by kicking me. They continued beating me inside the bus as well. … I was taken to police station #37. Police were not violent there. Nevertheless, I am going to lodge a complaint to law-enforcement agencies for the police mistreatment. My ribs are injured and I muse see a doctor,” said Sakit.
