JOURNALIST MIRZE SAKIT THREATENED WITH DEATH

Well-known journalist and satirist Mirza Sakit (Zahidov) has received anonymous death threats.

According to Sakit, he received text message from telephone number +99455 354 73 11 on the evening of May 3rd, threatening to shoot him in the head.
 “After I received the message, I phoned the number repeatedly, but it was turned off,” said Sakit, adding that he doesn’t intend to appeal to the law-enforcement agencies.
 “My colleagues have faced such incidents before, none of which were ever investigated. The authorities are indifferent to these issues and I will not appeal anywhere.
IRFS correspondents tried to contact the number throughout the day, but the phone was off.
Mirza Sakit was accused of possession of narcotics in June, 2006. He was sentenced to three years in prison. He was released under a presidential pardon in March, 2009.
