JOURNALIST PERSISTS WITH COMPLAINT AGAINST POLICE

“Yukselish Namina” Newspaper correspondent Elchin Hasanov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that he has introduced a petition to the Sabail District Court and Sabail District Prosecutor in which he is seeking the institution of a criminal case against employee of Sabail District Police Department #39, for their use of physical violence against him and other protesters.

Hasanov petition was signed by several participants the dispersed protest.   
Recall that on 14 December 2007 Hasanov reported being harassed by police while covering picket a about the unjust imprisonment of “Azadlig” Newspaper Editor-in-Chief G. Zahid and pressure against the expression of freedom in Azerbaijan. According to Hasanov he was brought to Sabail District Police Department #39, where he was beat and insulted.
