Journalist Placed in Solitary Confinement

Jailed Editor-in-Chief of azel.tv website, journalist Afgan Sadigov has been subjected to pressure and torture and put in solitary confinement for 14 days in Prison #17 where he is serving his sentence. The news was publicised by human rights defender Ogtay Gulaliyev.

“He [Sadigov] has continued with his critical speeches in prison as well. His latest article appeared in the press several days ago under the title “Down with the 1937 of the 21st Century, Down with…” It was after this article came out that the pressures began and he was tortured and subsequently placed in solitary confinement,” Gulaliyev added.

Background: Afgan Sadigov was arrested in November of 2016 and charged under Article 127 (deliberate infliction of less serious harm to health) of the Criminal Code. On 12 January 2017, the journalist was sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
