Today, 22 November, in the Masalli District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Nemet Musayev, a preliminary hearing was conducted on the lawsuit of Novruzali Aslanov. Aslanov won the election, according to results announced by CEC on 7 November. Aslanov was competing against editor-in-chief of Tribuna Information Agency (www.tia.az ) Alishir Ahad.
Alishir Ahad held a meeting at the Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety.
According to Alishir Ahad, he was not able to participate in the hearing because he was not given sufficient notice of the hearing date and time. The Judge accepted the case for consideration and scheduled the next hearing for 2 December at 11:00 a.m.
Deputy Novruzali Aslanov said that his honor and dignity was insulted in the article entitled “there were difficulties in constituency 86 “ and he appealed to the court demanding that the journalist be brought to justice and that a compensation of 20 000 AZN be paid under the article 147.1 of the Criminal Code.
