Journalist tortured after he wouldn’t apologize

In Sumgayit Appeal Court, a panel chaired by Farmayil Zeynalli heard journalist Ikram Rahimov’s appeal against Sumgayit City Court’s decision dated 03 May 2017 on his complaint related to his subjection to torture on 25-28 November 2016 by Sumgayit City Police Department’s deputy chief and other officers, who forced him to apologize to Head of Sumgayit City Executive Power Zakir Farajov on a real-time video call and tortured him for refusing to do so. “The court granted only one of our motions,” lawyer Elchin Sadigov said. “The motion to summon and examine Deputy Chief of Sumgayit City Police Department Hikmat Gasimov and an officer by name Kanan as witnesses was sustained. The main hearing was set for 09 August 2017.”
