JOURNALISTS DISTANCED FROM PLACE OF INCIDENT

Today, 30 April, at around 9:30 a.m., a bloody incident happened in the education building #2 of the State Oil Academy of Azerbaijan. An unidentified person entered the building and shot everyone he met on the first floor to the sixth by “Makarov” pistol. As a result, 12 people died and 13 people received different degree injuries. The armed criminal shot himself to death when he saw that police were about to catch him, and a passport belonging to Georgia citizen Gadirov Ferda Asad oglu born in 1980 was found on him.

According to an official report by the Ministry of Interior and the Chief Prosecutor’s office, the investigation of the criminal case is under supervision of the President of Azerbaijan Republic.
Journalists coming to gather information on the incident have been distanced from the building and no revelation has been made to media representatives by the law enforcement organs.
We note that families of several journalists suffered as a result of this bloody incident. Mother of “Interfax” Agency Employee Anar Azizov Tamella Azizova, who was a teacher at this academy, lost her life. Besides, “Azerpress” Information Agency employee Bahram Rustambayov’s father, laboratory employee at the academy Faig Rustambayov has been injured.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety contacted both agencies and the news was confirmed.
