JOURNALISTS’ PROTECTION AND FREEDOM OF SPEECH FUND HAS PROVIDED ASSISTANCE FOR SEVERAL JOURNALISTS

The Journalists' Protection and Freedom of Speech Fund has provided assistance for several journalists. “7 appeals have been considered within the past period and the Fund’s Management made a decision on the assistance distribution.”

Financial assistance in the amount of 300 AZN was delivered to the editorial offices of Yeni Musavat and Khural newspapers in accordance with the Fund’s Regulations clause regarding assistance for the defense of journalists who are facing court proceedings.  Day.az employee Akber Hasanov, Yeni Musavat employee Elmin Bedelov, Milli yol employee Anar Aliyev, independent journalist Mahal Ismayiloglu each received 240 AZN, in accordance with the clause regarding assistance for the treatment of journalists injured while carrying out their professional work,” according to the statement released by the Fund.
In accordance with the clause, assistance for a journalist who stopped working as a result of harassment, former AZTV employee Asef Guliyev received 240 AZN. In accordance with the clause, assistance for families and representatives of imprisoned journalist, bloggers Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade`s families, as well as the family of imprisoned editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev`s, who received 500 AZN.  
The Journalists' Protection and Freedom of Speech Fund is operating with the financial support from the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation. The New Generation Journalists’ Union, the Azerbaijani Journalist Union, the Najaf Najafov Foundation, and the Azerbaijan Democratic Journalists League are the founders of the foundation.
