Yesterday, on 22 December, Court of Appeals held a preliminary hearing on the appeal of Olke newspaper against the Yasamal District Court decision on the lawsuit filed by National Union Movement Head Lale Shovkat against the newspaper, editor-in-chief Rafael Bejanov told the Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety (IRFS) today.
According to Bejanov, Juade Jamila Safiyeva offered truce to both sides and advised them to negotiate. Then the Judge scheduled the next hearing for 27 January, at 10:30 am.

On 11-17 February Olke newspaper published an article entitled “Who is the agent with the nickname ‘Madam.’” L.Shovket claimed that information about her not conforming to reality found its place in the article, and therefore, demanded that a refutation be published in the newspaper, and that they apologize and each pay 100 000 AZN in fines. It is noted in the lawsuit that the amount received from the defendants via court decision should be deposited into the account of special facility in Bilgah village for war and labor invalids. Yasamal District Court fulfilled a lawsuit filed against newspaper on 13 September, 2010 and issued decision to be fined 4000 AZN.
Weekly Olke newspaper began operating in February 2008.
