KHADIJA ISMAYILOVA APPEALS TO LAW-ENFORCEMENT BODIES

RFE/RL reporter Khadija Ismayilova submitted a complaint to the General Prosecutor Zakir Garalov and Interior Minister Ramil Usubov.

On March 9, Khadija Ismayilova told the Mediaforum.az news website that she demands that law enforcement agencies identify and punish the persons responsible for the blackmail.

To note, the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the threats against Ismayilova. "We are appalled by the intimidation tactics being used to try to silence our colleague Khadija Ismayilova and call on Azerbaijani authorities to guarantee her safety and bring all of the culprits to justice," said CPJ Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova, according to RFE/RL reports. "Ismayilova is one of Azerbaijan's bravest and most respected independent journalists. The individuals who are trying to smear her have already failed."

On March 7, Khadija Ismayilova received an envelope in the post containing intimate photos and a letter threatening that she will be 'defamed' unless she stops ‘behaving improperly’.
