June 27th, 2011
Khural newspaper editor-in-chief Avaz Zeynalli has received death threats, Zeynalli reported to IRFS today.

Zeynalli said that Khural newspaper published an article titled “Police chief beaten in his office” in its 26 June edition. It was said in the article that Binagadi District Police Department Chief Agalar Maharramov takes fees from the business institutions run by high ranking officials in the district.
“I received phone calls from number 050 211 84 76 at about 11:42 am today. The caller introduced himself as Binagadi District Police Department Chief Agalar Maharramov. He began to insult me with inappropriate language. Then he threatened me with death,” said Zeynalli.  Zeynalli has reported the incident to 102 police service and the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
IRFS correspondents contacted the aforementioned phone number to seek response to the said claim. Binagadi District Police Department Chief Agalar Maharammov said that the claim was ungrounded and that he had not threatened Zeynalli.
