Today, February 3rd, Narimanov District Court heard the lawsuit filed by singer Nushaba Alasgarli against Khural newspaper. Judge Sevinj Guliyev presided over the hearing.
Khural Editor-in-chief Avaz Zeynalli represented the defendant side, while there not any plaintiff representative in attendance.
Zeynalli said in the hearing that they have reached a settlement with the singer and she will submit a statement of withdrawal in the next hearing.
However, after deliberation, Judge decided to fine the newspaper. The newspaper has to pay 3,000 AZN.
Zeynalli said that they would be filing an appeal against the decision as they consider it unfair.
The Judge didn’t allow the IRFS employee to take photo and video records in the hearing. Moreover, IRFS employee Ahmad Heybatov was forced to leave the courtroom.
Azerbaijani singer Nushaba Alasgarli filed a lawsuit against Khural newspaper citing humiliation of her honor in an article published in the Khural newspaper on 4 March, 2007. Under the previous court decision, the newspaper was fined 100 AZN. However, the newspaper failed to pay the fine because of financial problems.
