Yesterday, 30 November, Ayanda Mursaliyeva visited her husband, imprisoned Azadlig Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ganimat Zahid in Prison #17.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by A. Mursaliyeva. Mursaliyeva said that although Ganimat does not have any complaints about prison conditions, he suffers from health problems. According to Mursaliyeva,Ganimat Zahid is obliged to use a cane as a result of an increase in his rheumatism pains.
“Several days ago Zahid`s lawyer Alaif Hasanov appealed to the Penitentiary Services regarding his rheumatism and chest pains,” said Mursaliyeva. “The lawyer requested that the editor-in -chief should be transferred to the treatment facility and be allowed to communicate regularly with one of his colleagues from Azadlig Newspaper.

Ganimat Zahid was convicted under articles 127.2.3 (hooliganism with intentional infliction of minor bodily harm) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code and imprisoned for four years.
Azadlig Newspaper has been published since 1989 and operates as daily newspaper.
