MEMBERS OF “AGO” GROUP MEET WITH MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES AND IMPRISONED JOURNALISTS

Today, 24 November, the Council of Europe Ministers Committee “AGO” Monitoring Group met with representatives of media and human rights defenders within the framework its visit to Azerbaijan.

According to Media forum website, Azadlig Newspaper Chief Director Azer Ahmedov, media expert Alasger Mammadli, Public TV Deputy Chief Director Rafiq Nabiyev participated in the meeting.

Information regarding laws adopted on the media after Azerbaijan joined the Council of Europe, and imprisoned journalists was given to the members of group.

Members of the “AGO” group visited  Azadlig Newspaper Editor-in-chief Ganimat Zahid and Gundelik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan Newspapers  Editor-in-chief Eynulla Fatullayev.

The “AGO” group’s visit to Azerbaijan began on 23 November. Within the framework of this trip, the group delegation is meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Milli Mejlis (National Assembly), Justice Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister, Interior Affair Minister, Supreme Court Chairman, Central Election Commission Chairman, opposition parties, Mass Media and the representatives of non-governmental organizations, and the ambassadors of the countries in Azerbaijan that are state members of the Council of Europe. The visit will continue till 26 November.
